Classroom Changes

You are encouraged to go into each of the classrooms you’ve been assigned and familiarize yourselves with the technology. Please call (x4120) or email Abbi at atushing@hamilton.edu to line up a technician to meet you. Below you will find updates about upgrades to general purpose classrooms and information to help you navigate these changes.

2018 Spring Changes

Reclining/tilting computer stands installed in classrooms with Windows computers

Tilt ScreenDuring the winter break we installed reclining/tilting computer stands (pictured; click the image to see how the tilt screen works) in classrooms with Windows computers. These stands allow the computer screen to be lowered and raised for better visibility at the podium, and this should be helpful for faculty and presenters who would rather not have the computer in the way while engaging with their audience in the classrooms. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

The five auditoriums: KJ 125 & 127, SCCT G027, G041 & 3024

As you may recall from last spring it was decided to move away from Dual Boot computers across campus.  Because of equipment delays we are still working out some bugs in these systems.  More update about the auditoriums will come out shortly.

  • The podium rack in these spaces have both a Mini PC & Mac.
  • A new switcher was installed that allows the keyboard, mouse & USB devices to be switched between these computers.
  • A female USB cable can be found in the cable cubby for you to plug in any USB devices you have.
  • When you approach the podium the touchscreen will wake up on its own.
  • You can then select the device you wish to project. Systems will default to the Mac computer at start up.
  • If no image is projected the computer has probably gone too sleep, you will need to open the podium door and tap the power button on the computer.  Wiggling the mouse or tapping the keyboard will not wake it up.

A few things to remember about the systems

  • New academic images have been loaded onto the computers.
    • All the computers will require more time for the first log in as it gathers your information.
    • Macs will also require you to set some of your preferences... extended desk top or mirrored desk top and audio output.  If you need assistance making these adjustments you can dial #600 while at the podium and the Help Desk can assist you.
    • PC's do not require any preferences to be set, however, if someone makes a change to the system preferences it carries over to all users.  Make sure you know how to get to the setting and adjust them for you.
  • The computers should not be shut down when you are finished but it is extremely important for you to sign out every time.  Leaving yourself logged in leaves your information available to anyone walking up to the computer. The new Windows 10 operating system has moved the Sign out option to the lower left corner of the desktop.  Click on the Window icon, move up to the Person icon, click on it and click Sign out.  This will let you sign out without turning off the computer. Below the person icon is the tools icon.  This is where you would make changes to extended desktop or mirrored desktop.
