July 1, 1978

This fund was established by Paul Bradford, father of Ellis E. Bradford, Class of 1945.Paul Bradford, an alumnus of Cornell, made gifts to Hamilton and Cornell in honor of his brother, Eugene B. Bradford.
Eugene’s nephew, Ellis Bradford’s undergraduate career was interrupted in 1942 by World War II when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Ellis served in the Pacific Theater as a Lieutenant before returning to the Hill to finish his studies. After graduating from Hamilton in 1947 with a double major in history and mathematics, Ellis and his wife Jane left for Ireland, where Ellis attended Trinity College in Dublin. He received his second bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree before coming back to the States.
Following his return, Ellis worked in Hamilton’s Admissions Office before beginning a banking career in New York City. In 1952, he joined the Overseas Division at First National Bank (which became Citi-Bank), traveling with his family to many countries, to open foreign branches. In 1973, he found himself back working in New York City. He went on to serve in the General Counsel’s Office advising the bank on regulatory relations. He later worked with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. At the time of his retirement, he had become Vice President and Secretary of Citi-Bank.
Ellis’ commitment to his alma mater never wavered. He served the College in many roles, including that of Hamilton Life Trustee.
