Project Title: Martine Guyot-Bende Video Essay

Description: A video essay is a relatively new and flexible way to disseminate information from an individual perspective. It is a short personal film that functions like a written essay, combining analysis and reflection through a variety of still and moving images. Video essays can range from highly abstract and artistic to more structured arguments or analyses of a specific topic, combining visuals, audio, and narration—or anywhere in between. Typically, they mix found footage, visual effects, and voiceover or written narration. Members of the Digital Initiatives, Scholarship, and Collaboration (DISC) team are collaborating with Martine Guyot-Bender, Christian A. Johnson Excellence in Teaching Award Professor of French and Francophone Studies, to produce a video essay on Cambodian cinema. The film will feature a range of video, media, and audio clips, with a narrative voiceover by Guyot-Bender alongside other participants.
