In October, I attended some notable training for the AV industry. InfoComm International, the international trade and certification organization for the AV Industry, held what they call an 'AV Design Bootcamp' at their headquarters in Fairfax, VA. I was already certified as a Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) and additionally had attained their Installer and Lead Installer designations (CTS-I). The final step in InfoComm's curriculum is systems design (CTS-D designation)- meaning, working with architects and project managers and other tradespeople to develop an AV system suitable for any space, matching exacting specifications, and overseeing intergrator/installer companies to make sure the finished product matches expectations.

The bootcamp consisted of three, three-day classes, each focusing on a different area of AV Systems Design. After the nine days of intensive classes, I took the certification exam and became one of approximately 115 people in the world dual-certified by InfoComm in systems design and installations (CTS-I, CTS-D).

I will use this knowledge in real world applications as the new Arts building comes online to review system plans and installations, and for new and retrofitted installations around campus.
