Using Audacity
Preferences
- Select Audacity – Preferences
- Under Devices, select your desired playback and recording devices
- If you are using a stereo microphone, select 2 (Stereo) under Channels
- Click the OK button to close the Preferences window.
Importing Audio
- Select File - Import - Audio
- Navigate to the desired audio file
- Click the Open button
Recording
To begin recording, click the Record button
To stop recording, click the Stop button.
Effects
To amplify your audio, select the desired part of the waveform and select Effect – Amplify and then click the OK button.
To reduce noise in your audio track
- Select part of the waveform that only contains noise
- Select Effects – Noise Removal
- Click the Get Noise Profile button.
- Select the part of the waveform to which you want to apply noise reduction (usually the entire clip).
- Select Effects – Noise Removal
- Click the Remove Noise button.
Deleting Sections of Audio
Select the part of the waveform that you want to remove.
Select Edit – Remove Audio – Cut or click on the Cut button
Pasting Sections of Audio
- Select the section of audio you want to copy
- Select Edit - Copy or click on the Copy button.
- Place the cursor on the location where you want to paste the audio.
- Select Edit - Paste.
Saving an MP3
- Select File – Export as MP3
- Name your file and specify a location to save it.
- Click the Save button
- If desired, enter ID3 tags.
- Click the OK button to close the ID3 window.
