Artificial Intelligence
Similar to its support for other technologies, Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) helps the Hamilton College community understand and use artificial intelligence (AI) through a variety of Services, Tools, and Guides & Tutorials.
For assistance with AI or to explore partnering with LITS on an AI initiative, contact the Help Desk at 315-859-4181 or email helpdesk@hamilton.edu.
While LITS serves as a resource for understanding and using AI responsibly, it does not prescribe how—or whether—members of the community choose to use it. Faculty and staff are responsible for determining how AI fits within their roles, and students are expected to consult with their instructors before using AI in academic work, including coursework, learning activities, and research. All Hamilton members must adhere to the College’s established policies and procedures when using AI technology.

Frequently Asked Questions
Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to computer systems that are designed to perform tasks typically requiring human intelligence, such as speech recognition, language understanding, and decision-making.
Generative AI (genAI) refers to a type of AI technology that can generate new content, including text, images, and other forms of media. It leverages machine learning algorithms to understand patterns in existing data and then uses this understanding to create new, original content that resembles the input data in structure but is different in specifics. At this time, our focus is on genAI.
