Keeping the Connections
Hamilton College Opportunity Programs with the support of the Dean of Faculty’s office, Jarobin Gilbert and Judith Guerra, parents of Jarobin Gilbert ’08, held its first Parents “Connected” Day in 2006. Our purpose was to aid in student retention by bringing program parents to the Hamilton campus to better understand their student’s experience.
Although we encourage all parents and guardians to attend, we currently can only sponsor a bus from New York City. Upon arrival to campus families were welcomed by the President, ate in the dining halls with students, participated in mini-classes, toured the campus, treated to entertainment by program students, and enjoyed free time with their student. The entire day was provided at no cost to families.
We have enjoyed ten years of success, and with the support of the College, we are looking forward to our 11th year this spring. It is our hope to be able to expand the program to include other parts of New York State and beyond.
Opportunity Programs has been presented with a challenge by a benefactor in support of Parents’ “Connected” Day. The challenge is simple. The benefactor will donate $2500.00 in support of the program, as long as others will donate as well. This is where we need your support. I don’t have to tell you how important this is, because you were there! You understand the challenges and know what this can mean to an entire family. My request to you is based on the support given to you, and the hope that you can pass that support on! No contribution is too small, every cent matters.
