The Mid-year Housing Selection process will occur in two parts. The first is the Housing Selection Process. The second is the Roommate Matching Process.

Housing Selection Process

The Housing Selection process will include all students who are in need of Spring housing and all spaces that are anticipated to be completely vacant for the Spring semester.

Each participant/roommate group in a selection process will be randomly assigned (by class year) a selection time on their Housing Account. This time dictates the order in which individuals or groups may select their housing. Once a selection time is made active, students have until the end of the selection process to select housing. There are 2 minutes between each selection time. This does not mean that you only have 2 minutes to select housing, it simply means that for 2 minutes you are the only new person/group allowed to select. Selection times belong to the person/group they were originally assigned to, and cannot be traded or given away to another student.

  • Housing Selection will occur in your Housing Account.
  •  If you are hoping to select a single room by yourself there is nothing that you need to do prior to receiving your selection time.
  •  If you are hoping to select with one friend who is also a part of this process, you will need to form a roommate group in order to be able to select housing together. The largest group size for this process is 2. Groups are formed in your Housing Account, by each member requesting and accepting each other. You then select housing together using a selection time that is created by averaging the selection times of both members of the group. Groups will be able to select one double room or two single rooms.
  • If in a roommate group, only one person will make the selection for the group. Any one member of the group can log into their own Housing Account and make the selection for the group. It is advised that you communicate in some way at your selection time, or have a clear plan for what you want to select, so that the person making the selection can feel confident in their decision.
  • Please know that we cannot guarantee you a single room if you enter Housing Selection alone. We strongly advise you to find a potential roommate and register as a 2-person roommate group. As a two-person group you can select either two single rooms, or select a double room together if no singles are available at your selection time. If there are no single rooms available at your selection time, and you are not in a roommate group of 2, you will be unable to select housing and will be housing through the Roommate Matching Process.
  • If you are abroad and need assistance with selection either because you have internet connectivity concerns or concerns about your selection time in your current time zone, please reach out prior to selection. We can offer assistance with selection in these cases.

Roommate Matching Process

Any student who is not housed through the Housing Selection Process will be placed into housing through the Roommate Matching Process.

Through the Roommate Matching Process, Community Living will place remaining students into a housing location for the Spring semester. Each student who is in need of housing will receive a roommate matching form. Community Living will use those forms to pair you with other students who are also unassigned, or to pair you with students currently on campus who will have a vacancy in their room. Students will be placed in double, triple or quad rooms, or will be added to double rooms in apartments or suites. Students will not be placed in single rooms through this process.

***Please note that if the room you select or are assigned is an anticipated vacancy, and if the current resident cancels their plan to take a leave during the spring, they will retain their space in that room, and you will need to re-select from the list of rooms that are available at the time that their leave was canceled. The Office of Community Living will contact you if this happens.
