The William E. Davis Scholarship was established by friends of family of William E. Davis, Class of 1940.

William Edward Davis, Class of 1940 (1919-1953) was raised in Brooklyn, NY. At Hamilton, he was an active member of Sigma Phi fraternity, as well as the varsity basketball and baseball teams, the latter, which he captained for three years. After receiving his B.A., William joined the U.S. Navy and became a lieutenant senior grade, serving in the European theatre in World War II. Following the war, he went to work for Street and Smith’s magazine Mademoiselle. Later, he served as advertising manager for the magazine Charm.

During his time on and off the Hill, he was incredibly active with the College. As a student, he contributed to the Alumni Gymnasium Fund. Following graduation, he continued his commitment to Hamilton and was named special gifts chairman for the New York City area for the 1953 Alumni Fund campaign, before he passed away.
