The Thomas James Crawford Scholarship

The Thomas James Crawford Scholarship was established with estate gifts received from Dr. Thomas James Crawford, Hamilton Class of 1967.

Known as T.J. Czupryna when he matriculated from Whitesboro Central High School in 1968, the family name was changed to Crawford before Thomas James (T.J.) left College Hill. The child of parents who never finished high school and the first member of his family to go to college, T.J. focused on getting an education as his primary goal. Except for serving as an engineer for the campus radio station, he pursued his studies to the virtual exclusion of everything else. His dedication resulted in numerous academic awards and election to Phi Beta Kappa; he graduated first in his class and with one of the highest grade-point averages in the history of the College up to that time.

T.J. Crawford went on to Cornell University Medical College. After acquiring his M.D. degree 1972, he served his residency at Youngstown Hospital in Ohio and eventually moved to California, where he most recently maintained his practice in San Jose. He became a specialist in medical marijuana and assisted many patients in ameliorating the painful effects of debilitating diseases.

Dr. Crawford is survived by two sons, James Crawford Ralston and Nathan Crawford Ralston.
