The Jack Silverman Scholarship

The Jack Silverman Scholarship was established in 1980 by Howard J. Schneider, M.D., Class of 1960 and a Life Trustee of the College, and his wife Sandra, in honor of her father, Jack Silverman.

Jack Silverman was born in Hoboken, New Jersey. A man of great independence and self-sufficiency, he put himself through the Columbia School of Pharmacy by alternating years between academics and work, eventually graduating in 1926. He would spend the rest of his life in Jersey City as a well-respected pharmacist. Jack and his wife, Anna Goldstone, had four children, one of whom, Sandra, married Hamilton graduate, Howard J. Schneider, Class of 1960. Jack was a pivotal figure in Howard’s life, providing him with the financial support and encouragement to finish medical school. After Jack’s death in 1984, Dr. and Mrs. Schneider established this scholarship to honor his dedication to education.
