The Dr. Earl C. Cline Scholarship

The Dr. Earl C. Cline Scholarship, established in 1987 by Mrs. Ora L. Wildermuth in memory of her nephew, Earl C. Cline, Class of 1956, is awarded to a worthy student who exemplifies Earl’s high moral values.

Earl C. Cline, Class of 1956, (1934-1987) was an athlete of exceptional talent, as well as an active member of the Hamilton community at large. Born in Saginaw, MI, Mr. Cline spent his early years there before relocating to Brockport, NY. He became an exceptional football and track athlete. After arriving at Hamilton in 1952, he began setting college records in the long jump, as well as excelling in other track and field events. Additionally, he became quarterback of the football team, and during his 1954 season he gained 1001 yards, at the time a Hamilton record. However, his involvement on campus did not end on the track or football field. He was President of Phi Upsilon fraternity and the Interfraternity Council, as well as a member of DT, Was Los, and Pentagon.

After Hamilton, Earl Cline went on to receive his M.D. from the University of Rochester in 1960. He entered the U.S. Air Force, where he was on active duty for seven years while serving his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, Denver, and later in Germany. He returned to Central New York and established his own medical practice in Oneida. Throughout his life after college, he maintained a love for sports, continuing to run track at competitions and competing exceptionally at international trap-shooting competitions.
