The Linda Collens Wilson Scholarship

The Linda Collens Wilson Scholarship was established in 1979 by Robert Letchworth Wilson, Class of 1931, in memory of his wife.

Robert L. Wilson, an attorney and founder of the EPIC Foundation, came to Hamilton College in 1927. He was captain of the varsity ice hockey team and a member of the football team and the Sigma Phi fraternity. He graduated in 1931 with majors in political science and history. Bob then earned an LL.B. from Yale University in 1934.

Bob was a retired attorney and businessman in Buffalo, New York, when his wife, Linda Collens Wilson, was brutally murdered by a local youth in 1977. Bob remembered his late wife as “a very beautiful person who loved children,” and this memory combined with the circumstances of her death motivated Bob to help troubled young people in the Buffalo area. He founded Effective Parenting Information for Children (EPIC) in 1980 to teach parents “how to prepare their children to be responsible adults.” The Buffalo News named Bob a “News Outstanding Citizen” in 1987, and Hamilton awarded an honorary doctorate to him in 1993. He died at 91 years of age in 2001.
