The Robert S. Bloomer Scholarship

The Robert S. Bloomer Scholarship was established in 1999 by Robert S. Bloomer, Jr., Class of 1950, and his mother, Mrs. Robert S. Bloomer, Sr. It is awarded to students demonstrating financial need, with preference given to students from Newark High School in Newark, N.Y.

Robert S. Bloomer is a native of Newark, New York, and joined the U.S. Army during World War II. He spent six months on the Hamilton campus in 1944 for specialized training during WWII (Hamilton hosted several military programs). He spent the next two years on active duty and then returned to the Hill in 1947 as an enrolled student. Robert “Bob” majored in the sciences, played lacrosse, ran track, and co-captained the soccer team. He graduated in 1950 and returned to Newark to work for the family business, Bloomer Bros. Paper Co. He was involved in the paper and packaging industry for 39 years, retiring in 1989. Bob remains an active Hamilton alumnus – as chair of several reunion committees, a member of the Alumni Council and class correspondent for the Alumni Review. In 2008, Bob was honored as the College’s Volunteer of the Year for his "hands-on involvement in recruiting students for the College and assisting them financially."
