The LT Willard B. Eddy, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

The LT Willard B. Eddy, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, established in 1950 by Mr. and Mrs. Willard B. Eddy, Sr.,  in memory of their son, Lt. Eddy, Class of 1941, is awarded in certain years on a competitive basis to entering students who attended secondary school in Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne or Yates counties, New York. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic achievement and character.


Willard B. Eddy, Jr., Class of 1941,  was born in New York, the son of Willard B. Eddy, Sr., Class of 1914. Willard, Jr. resided in Rochester, New York, and worked as an architect until his enlistment in the Army in August 1941. He was promoted to 1LT and piloted a B-25 in the U.S. Army Air Force. On January 1944, he was "killed in action" on a bombing mission over the Velletri Road Junction in Italy after his plane was hit by heavy flack. He was posthumously awarded an Air Medal and a Purple Heart. Willard Eddy, Jr. is buried at the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial in Italy. The Lieutenant Willard B. Eddy, Jr. Memorial Scholarship was established by his parents to honor his memory.
