The Linda D. and Albert M. Hartig Scholarship

The Linda D. and Albert M. Hartig Scholarship, established in 1993 by Albert M. Hartig, Class of 1942, and his wife, is awarded to a student from the Mid-Atlantic or New England states.

Albert M. Hartig entered Hamilton in 1938 and majored in French and economics. During his sophomore year, he and his roommate signed up for the U.S. Marine Corps Volunteer Reserve and left for training in Virginia. By 1945, Albert had become a 1st Lieutenant in the Pacific theatre and remained in the reserves until his discharge as a Major in 1964.

In 1946, Albert began working for Gruntal & Co., a retail stock brokerage firm located in the financial district of Manhattan. He eventually became executive vice-president and secretary. By 1987, after having worked 41 years for the company, Albert retired. The next year, he received Hamilton's Bell Ringer Award, in recognition of his exception service to Hamilton as an alumni volunteer. Albert has since spent his time doing volunteer work and traveling around the globe with his wife, Linda. He is one of Hamilton's most generous and enthusiastic supporters. Three of Albert’s granddaughters have graduated from Hamilton: Jennifer Gorzelany, Class of 1999, Kristen Anderson, Class of 2001, and Melinda Jones, Class of 2003.
