The Antoine du Bourg Scholarship

The Antoine du Bourg Scholarship was established by a bequest from Joseph F. McCrindle in honor of his half-brother Antoine du Bourg, Class of 1953.

Antoine “Tony” du Bourg was born in France in 1928, and moved to the United States when World War II broke out. He came to the Hill in 1949 from Queenstown, MD, and joined the Chi Psi fraternity. He also participated in all aspects of musical life on the Hill joining the Glee Club and Choir, playing the Chapel organ and acting with the Charlatans. His studies focused on music, mathematics and English, and he was the recipient of the Nelson Clark Dale Prize in Music.

After serving in the U.S. Army, Tony spent the next 47 years teaching secondary school physics, general science and music. He also earned an M.L.S. from Wesleyan University in 1965.
