The John Michael Provenzano '53 Scholarship

The John Michael Provenzano ’53 Scholarship was established in 2002  by Laura Provenzano in honor of her brother.

John Provenzano, a prosecutor with the Los Angeles district attorney’s office, was born in Huntington, New York. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1949, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his military service, he enrolled at Hamilton where he played lacrosse and football. He was also an active member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He graduated in 1953 with a major in psychology, and went on to earn an LL.B. from UCLA in 1958. He joined the L.A. district attorney’s office and became nationally known in 1965 when he worked with Johnnie Cochran to prosecute several Los Angeles police officers suspected in the slaying of African-American, Leonard Deadwyler. He died in 1995, and his sister, Laura, established this scholarship to honor his memory, acknowledging the opportunities his Hamilton education afforded him.
