Due to its central location, Madrid is surrounded by beautiful cities and towns worth a visit. Most are within two hours of the city and can be easily accessed by public transportation. Our students recommend that you check these places out!

Toledo

Located to the southwest of Madrid, Toledo is a very well-preserved medieval city known for its three cultures that have influenced it over the years. Christian, Islamic and Hebrew influences can be seen throughout the city, and the city is regarded as an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Toledo is about an hour away by bus/car and half an hour by rapid train from Madrid and is definitely worth a visit!

Segovia

A city famous for its well-known and well-preserved Roman aqueduct and old town and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We recommend visiting the aqueduct, the Alcázar, and the Gothic Cathedral.

The city is an hour away from Madrid by bus/car and about half an hour away by rapid train, leaving from the Madrid Chamartín train station.

Ávila

Declared by the writer José Martínez Ruiz (Azorín) as “perhaps the most 16th-century town in Spain”, Ávila is a quiant historic town to the northwest of Madrid. It is famous for its medieval town walls and became an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.

Ávila is about an hour and a half from Madrid by bus/car.
