As the spring semester starts and campus is buried under lake effect snow, look for winter trips and activities with HOC. The spring season offers continued HOC leader development with the 5-day winter camping seminar in the Adirondacks and the Telemark skiing instructor development series. If you'd like to get off campus, look for trips offered in ice climbing, day hiking, and overnight winter camping. For spring break HOC is travelling south to find warm weather and sea kayaking on the Atlantic coast, traveling to New Hampshire to hike and winter camp in the White Mountains, and flying to the southwest for a backpacking trip in the Superstition Wilderness.
HOC also hosts a number of on-campus events. Mark your calendars for February 19 when HOC will be hosting the Banff Mountain Film Festival with presenting partners the North Face and National Geographic. Tickets are $10 to the Hamilton College community and $12 others. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the films begin at 7 pm. HOC will also be hosting Emilie Drinkwater, an Adirondack guide, with climbing experience in the Cascades, Rockies, and the Himalaya. Emilie will speak at 7 pm March 3 in the Red Pit and hang out with climbers at 4 pm at the climbing wall.
