Assistant/Associate Director, Days-Massolo Center

Position Summary:

The Assistant/Associate Director of the Days-Massolo Center is responsible for diversity programming at the college through collaboration with faculty, students and staff representing every division of the college. This position fosters understanding of diversity and inclusiveness through innovative activities and programs of the center, provides leadership and training in diversity awareness and sensitivity, and engages widely with the college community around issues of diversity.

Responsibilities:

Programming: Collaborate with members of the campus community to develop and implement innovative programming that educates the campus about multiculturalism and diversity awareness through community building.

  • Facilitate dialogue across campus groups focused on social complexity, ethnic and racial difference, social class, gender, LGBTQ issues, etc.
  • Coordinate speaker and film series, panels and conferences that highlight diversity issues.
  • Collaborate with faculty to incorporate diversity issues in the classroom and promote a diverse and open learning environment in and out of the classroom.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff and students to develop student-centered programming including cultural events, talks and educational programs.

Relationships: In coordination with the Director of Diversity & Inclusion, build productive partnerships with campus constituents and external organizations.

  • Provide assistance to student organizations to promote inclusiveness and understanding on campus.
  • Develop and sustain effective relationships with college divisions, programs and organizations.

Administration: Work with the Director of Diversity & Inclusion to oversee the daily operations of the Days-Massolo Center.

  • Consult with, and provide reports to the Director of Diversity & Inclusion, advisory boards, and others, on the activities of the Center.
  • Assist in the management of the Center’s budget.
  • Engage in continued professional development.
  • Recruit, train and supervise student workers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Diversity & Inclusion.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • A Bachelors degree is required.
  • Masters degree or advanced degree in a related academic area of study is preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one year experience working in a higher education setting is required.
  • Prior work experience in diversity education within a higher education setting preferred.
  • Prior experience supervising and managing budgets is preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Candidates with one year or less of post masters experience or those with a bachelors degree will be considered for the Assistant Director title. Candidates with two or more years of post masters experience will be considered for the Associate director title. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work with diverse communities in an academic setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, alumni and the general public.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Knowledge and a deep understanding of developmental challenges faced by students of diverse identities and an understanding of the intersections of these identities.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, creativity, and the ability to oversee a wide range of administrative duties and special projects. 
  • Demonstrated ability to be a community builder.
