Community-Based Learning Coordinator, Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center

The Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center supports programming that introduces Hamilton students to the world of public affairs and encourages them to pursue creative, ethical, and informed responses to public issues. The Center administers student-faculty research programs, public affairs lectures, leadership and social entrepreneurship programming, and provides support for public service internships, among other things.


The primary responsibilities of this new salaried half-time position with benefits include, but are not limited to, administering our experiential learning programs (SHINE and VITA), coordinating transportation to and from the City of Utica; coordinating our Spring Term Speaker Series (5-7 speakers and panels a term); supporting Think Tank and the Faculty Lunch Discussion program; overseeing the Levitt Scholars program; mentoring, training, and supervising student workers, including our van drivers; and participating in on-going strategic discussions and outreach to our community partners in Utica and the surrounding areas.  Other responsibilities include monitoring of Levitt email accounts, and management of Levitt Center resources, including use of the conference room and field offices. 


The ideal candidate will have earned a bachelor’s degree or more, have an understanding of the liberal arts environment, have excellent written and verbal skills, possess knowledge of or be willing to learn Excel and other computer and cloud-based applications, have good interpersonal skills, and be comfortable working with students, faculty and staff on a daily basis.  Candidates will be expected to contribute their best ideas and to actively participate in strategic conversations, while also attending to the many details required to make our programs run smoothly.  All members of the Levitt Center staff represent the College at meetings in the larger community; therefore, the ideal candidate must possess the poise and verbal skills to do so well.  In addition, candidates must be able and interested in experimenting with innovative approaches, developing creative programs, and using new technologies.  Finally, the ideal candidate will be committed to the types of programming offered through the Levitt Center. 


This is a half-time position with the work schedule to be determined.  The chosen candidate must be available for occasional evening and weekend events.
