Assistant Director for Institutional Research and Assessment

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Institutional Research and Assessment works closely with other administrators, staff and faculty members to assist with internal and external data reporting, special studies, survey research, outcomes assessment, and other projects as assigned.   The position reports to the Assistant Dean of Faculty for Institutional Research and Assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a primary contact for requests for official information about the College. Shares responsibility with the Assistant Dean of Faculty for Institutional Research and Assessment for responding to internal and external data requests, including state and federal reporting and requests from private agencies.
  • Collects, organizes, verifies, summarizes, and edits data from the Colleague administrative database and from various College offices for use in official reporting, planning, and research.
  • Develops and maintains a cycle of regular institutional studies and reports, archival data, and key indicators to support recurring decision-making needs of the institution. 
  • Compiles information about peer institutions and about the demographic, economic, and social factors affecting the national educational environment.
  • Oversees the design and updating of the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment web site.
  • Assists with the administration and analysis of various institutional surveys and outcomes assessment studies.
  • Represents the Office on various campus committees and provides analytical support to other offices as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a social science, business or a related field with course work in statistics and research methods and two to four years related experience.  Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The ideal candidate will have excellent quantitative and writing skills, including the ability to communicate technical information in oral, written and graphic form to individuals with varying backgrounds. A strong background in statistical analysis, spreadsheet applications, and database management systems.  Demonstrated proficiency in Excel.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Other requirements include the ability to work independently; strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple and changing priorities; the ability to meet deadlines; diligent concern for accuracy and attention to detail; a customer service orientation and the ability to work well with others in a collegial environment.
  • Proficiency in an analytical software package, such as SPSS, SAS, or R
  • Some experience in programming, particularly in data extraction or report writing from a central administrative database.
  • Experience with a large-scale relational database
  • Website design and development
