New York Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R-122nd District) visited Hamilton College on May 16. He responded to an invitation made during New York Student Aid Alliance Advocacy Day in February in Albany, N.Y., when a group of Hamilton students visited the state capital.  Director of Opportunity Programs Phyllis Breland ’80 said, “He took the time to show that he cared about the experiences and opinions of our Opportunity Program students.”

Hamilton College has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations to support the three-year pilot phase of a comprehensive First-Year Experience (FYE) program to help students make the transition to college.

Hamilton College received the largest award among 23 Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad international education grants announced by the U.S. Department of Education. Hamilton was awarded $671,975 in federal funds to support the project “The ACC Intensive Language Training Program for Students and Language Professionals.” It will be managed by Hong Gang Jin, the William R. Kenan Professor of Chinese, and Associated Colleges in China (ACC) general director.

For the third year, Hamilton College is the recipient of STARTALK funding to operate two programs for Chinese language this summer—a Chinese teacher development program and a week-long intensive learning Chinese immersion course for students in grades 8 and 9.  This year’s grant of $125,000 will fund the ACC-STARTALK Teacher Program for non-native K-12 Chinese Teachers and ACC-STARTALK Youth Camp for Utica BOCES students on the Hamilton campus July 1 through 14.  

Hamilton College was recently named the recipient of a grant for more than $120,000 from STARTALK to undertake two Chinese language programs this summer—a Chinese teacher development program and a week-long intensive learning Chinese course for students in grades 8 and 9. The  programs will take place on campus from June 4 to June 15.

Hamilton’s HANSA nonprofit management program enters its third year with three Student Fellows: Holly Donaldson '11, Michael "Dayne" Harris '11, and Xiaohan Du '12. The HANSA program, launched in 2008, partners with non-profit agencies in the Mohawk Valley on specific projects and staffs the agencies with student fellows interested in pursuing non-profit leadership roles.
