  • Participants in the first Levitt Leadership Institute cohort headed to Washington, D.C. for the  second phase of the program during spring break. Led by Prudence Bushnell, former U.S. Ambassador to Kenya and Guatemala, the group continued their focus on the study of leadership, a program that was enhanced by daily meetings with Washington leaders. Funding for the entire program was provided by Arthur Levitt Jr.

  • Disadvantaged children in struggling schools are often not given a chance to succeed, and public school systems are sometimes unable to find the resources to encourage or inspire some of their students. Emma Simmons ’11 is working as a teaching fellow for Citizen Schools, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering students from struggling schools across the country.

  • Ashlyn Razzo ’11 loves working with children. A recent Hamilton graduate, Razzo knew that she wanted to spend her future working with underprivileged youth, giving back to the kind of community in which she grew up. Razzo will be serving as a 2011 corps member in Miami for Teach For America (TFA), the non-profit organization dedicated to ending educational inequality in the United States.

  • My years at Hamilton were undoubtedly some of the most formative of my life; I got the chance to discover and explore my own passions. I knew I wanted to continue this path after graduation, and a few months later, I began my year of service   working with a non-profit called City Year in Washington, D.C., only a few miles from where I grew up.

  • I’m not one of those people who plan in advance, always knowing what my next move is going to be. I like to think this is a good quality; however, when searching for jobs after college this can be a problematic mindset. The day after graduating from Hamilton with majors in psychology and French, I was faced with a harsh reality: I had only my dad’s couch to sleep on and no idea what I wanted to do with my life.
