Carl Rubino, the Winslow Professor of Classics, presented a lecture titled “From Mythology to Star Wars” on Feb. 8 at Sierra Nevada College. His discussion focused on the ancient mythological roots of the Star Wars films.

Carl Rubino, the Winslow Professor of Classics, gave talks at the Rome and Utica campuses of Mohawk Valley Community College on Feb. 27 and 28.  The talks, titled “Getting in Touch with the Force: Star Wars and the Ancient World,” were featured in MVCC's Spring Cultural Series as part of the college's Diversity and Global View Initiative.

WAMC/Northeast Public Radio in Albany will feature a reading by Carl Rubino, the Winslow Professor of Classics, on Tuesday, July 17, as part of the public radio station’s Academic Minute. During his reading, Rubino explains why the Star Wars series is attracting a whole new generation of fans.  “The Star Wars films bear witness to the enduring power of this ancient legacy, which has much to do with the secret of their appeal”

Carl A. Rubino, the Winslow Professor of Classics, recently published an article titled “Long Ago, But Not So Far Away: Another Look at Star Wars and the Ancient World.”

Hamilton's Winslow Professor of Classics Carl A. Rubino will present a talk titled “Articulating Wonder in a Secular Age" in the Imagining America series on Wednesday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. at The Other Side, Utica. The Other Side is located at 2011 Genesee St. in Utica, across from the Uptown Theater and next to the Cafe Domenico. Parking is available, and admission is free.

Carl A. Rubino, the Winslow Professor of Classics, presented a paper at the annual meeting of the Southwest/Texas Popular & American Culture Association, held in Albuquerque, N.M. on Feb. 10. The paper, “Long Ago, But Not So Far Away: Star Wars and the Ancient World,” was given at a panel Rubino chaired on "Alternate Takes: Greek Mythology in Science Fiction and Fantasy."
