The 5th annual Hamilton College Alternative Spring Break (ASB) "Not So Silent" Auction will be held on Thursday, March 6 in the Beinecke Village Annex.  Bidding on silent auction items will take place from noon to 8 p.m., with a live auction at 7 p.m.  Among the items to be auctioned are gift certificates from Clinton and New Hartford restaurants and shops, and items such as haircuts, manicures, pizza, clothing articles and quilts.

The ASB community service program at Hamilton is one of the most successful student volunteer programs at the College.  Under the patronage of the Hamilton Action Volunteer Outreach Coalition (HAVOC) nearly 65 students in groups of 10-12 travel south to participate in various community service activities during spring break.  This year's programs include environmental trips to southwest Georgia and east Tennessee, work with Habitat for Humanity in Winston-Salem, NC, and three community outreach trips -- one each to Jacksonville, FL, Wilmington, NC, and Rock Hill, SC.

Program costs are in the vicinity of $18,000. These costs cover site fees, housing, van rentals, gasoline, food, and miscellaneous expenses.  Each student participant is asked to pay $125. Many students request financial aid so the Silent Auction is an important source of financial support.
