An Associated Press article focused on "the latest of several efforts by academics to lend analytical rigor to an emotional debate," whether college faculty impose their views on students, referenced an earlier study conducted by Assistant Dean of Faculty for Institutional Research Gordon Hewitt and Xavier University professor Mack Mariani.

"Study: Peers, not profs, influence student views" reported that UCLA researchers found, "Overall, students were nearly as likely after three years of college to call themselves 'conservative' or 'far-right,' according to findings, and only somewhat more likely to call themselves 'liberal' or 'far left.'" Hewitt and Mariani examined faculty influence on the political views of college students in a national study and found no evidence of faculty indoctrination.

The article has appeared on hundreds of Web sites and publications including Forbes, MSNBC, FOX News, National Public Radio, Diverse magazine, USA Today and The Los Angeles Times.
