An Auburn native who retired as vicechairman of the board of American Telephone and Telegraph Company after morethan four decades with the company, has left his college alma mater $3.5million.

The gift from William C. Bolenius, a 1921 Hamilton College graduate, willestablish the William C. Bolenius '21 Scholarship Fund. It will providerenewable annual grants of up to $10,000 each to academically outstandingstudents who have demonstrated their proficiency in persuasive oral and writtencommunication and their commitment to citizenship.

The focus of the scholarship program recognizes distinguishing characteristicsof the college and is intended to match a $3.25 million endowed scholarshipprogram established last year as part of a $5.25 million bequest from theestate of William McLaren Bristol, Jr., a 1917 Hamilton graduate.
