Bedient Presents at Annual Mathematics Meeting
Professor of Mathematics Richard Bedient presented a talk on the Hamilton College Mathematics Senior Seminar Program at the Annual Mathematics Meetings in Boston in January. The talk was part of a session on “Capstone Courses” and described the Hamilton seminar program as a whole, but focused on the Seminar in Topology which Bedient has taught for many years.
In the class, students are given a rather sketchy set of notes outlining topology. They then independently work out the details, present their work to the group, take turns writing up the agreed upon solutions, edit the resulting draft and finally produce their own "Topology Textbook" suitable for display on a coffee table.
