Dickens is considered one of the pioneers of women's music. In the documentary film Dickens talks about her life – growing up in the coalfields, working in the factories of Baltimore, playing music with other mountain migrants, and surviving as a woman artist.
Dickens' appearance is part of the Kirkland Project's Southern Accents series.
