The Soper Commons was the site this past Thursday evening for a dinner honoring Tom Murphy and his tenure as athletic director at Hamilton College. About 200 guests attended the dinner, including nine former coaches and 20 former players. Jack Withiam '71, Christine Johnson and Bob Simon were the featured speakers as they reminisced about Coach Murphy's 22 years as the athletic director.

Since 1980 Murphy has developed the athletic department at Hamilton into one of the pre-eminent departments in the country. When he took over Hamilton featured just a handful of sports. Today Hamilton boasts 28 varsity sports, 14 for men and 14 for women. He's also been responsible for the improvement of the athletic facilities including the renovation of Love Field, the Walter A. Pritchard Track and the astroturf field. He's also overseen the addition of the Ade Fitness Center and the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. Murphy will continue to lead the men's basketball program, which he has built into one of the top Division III programs in the country.

The Thomas E. Murphy Crew Scull was dedicated Thursday night.
