Anomaly, an action/sci-fi/futuristic screenplay idea by Nicole Dietsche '09, was chosen as the winner of the Legendary Pictures Film Treatment Challenge after finalists pitched their screenplay ideas to a Legendary creative team on April 2 in the Fillius Events Barn. Dietsche is a creative writing major and a Senior Fellow at Hamilton.

This unique opportunity was made possible by Thomas Tull '92, Legendary chairman and CEO, who sponsored the competition. Legendary Pictures is known for its blockbuster hits Superman Returns, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Open to all current Hamilton students and the Class of 2008, the challenge offered an exclusive opportunity for participants to submit a three-five page story idea for a sci-fi, action adventure, horror or fantasy motion picture. Treatments were due last fall, after which time a campus selection committee chose the top 10. These semifinalists were then judged by the Legendary Creative Team, who narrowed the field to the five.

Dietsche describes Anomaly in her summary as follows. "Fifty years in the future, 25-year-old Charlie Elliott finds his world turned upside down when he discovers his entire life has been a government-funded science experiment called Project Lone Wolf. One of a handful of rare genetically emotionless anomalies (Apathetics), believed to be the next step in human evolution, Charlie must destroy Project Lone Wolf before agents remove the emotion chip implanted in his head and he is deployed into a war zone. Without this emotion chip, Charlie will be transformed into a super-soldier whose only purpose is to fight for his country. Unsure of who he can trust, Charlie teams up with fellow Apathetics, Michaela Davison and Jack Walsh to try to reclaim their lives."

As the winner of the Film Treatment Challenge, Dietsche will fly to Los Angeles, visit the Warner Brothers lot and tour Legendary pre-production offices, and spend time with Tull and the creative team at Legendary.

Each of the five finalists received a bag filled with Legendary memorabilia including baseball caps, t-shirts and Legendary DVDs.
