The Emerson Gallery at Hamilton College opens the 2001-02 season with the exhibit, "Duane Michals: Photographer as Magician." The exhibition will be on display through October 21. 

Related programs will include the William H. Roehrick Lecture in the Fine Arts to be presented by Duane Michals on Saturday, September 15, at 4 p.m. in the Chemistry Auditorium, followed by a reception at the Gallery.  On Tuesday, September 25, at 4 p.m. exhibit curator and Hamilton lecturer in art Sylvia De Swaan will give a Gallery Talk. A reception will follow in the Gallery. All events are free and open to the public.

Considered one of the great photographers of the twentieth century, Duane Michals has been awarded numerous grants and honors, including an honorary doctorate from the Art Institute of Boston, the Insignia of the Order of Arts and Letters from France and most recently, a lifetime achievement award from Foto EspaƱa in Madrid. His work has been exhibited extensively at major art institutions in the United States and around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City; George Eastman House in Rochester, NY; Kunsthaus Zurich; Israel Museum, Jerusalem; Biblioteque Nationale, Paris; Australia's National Gallery of Art in Auckland; the National Museum of Art in Kyoto, Japan, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Holland, among many others.

The Emerson Gallery is located on the Hamilton College campus, in Christian Johnson Hall, directly behind the college chapel.
