Associate Professor of Art History Stephen J. Goldberg published a chapter titled “Philosophical Reflection and Visual Art in Traditional China” in Asian Texts--Asian Contexts: Encounters with Asian Philosophies and Religions, edited by David Jones and E.R. Klein (SUNY Press, 2010).

According to Goldberg, “This essay examines the relevance of the classical tradition of Confucian philosophical reflection for the study of Chinese visual art. It offers a philosophically informed understanding of Chinese art that supports an inquiry into the relationship between art and the question of sociocultural authority in traditional China.”
