Alumni support for student financial aid is absolutely critical today. Bombarded by daily news of financial crisis, the Alumni Office sought to temper the gravity of the moment and the urgency of the need by adding an inter-college competitive element to lighten the tone of our solicitations. Hamilton challenged Colgate to see which school could generate the most donors during the month of April. Since Colgate has yet to report their April 30 donor number, the contest remains unresolved. Regardless of the outcome, students are the clear winners!

The alumni response in April was unprecedented and nothing short of spectacular. At the end of the day on April 30 fully 1,308 alumni had made a gift to Hamilton - nearly four times the total number of donors in April, 2008! We can be proud that the Hamilton community has a generous heart. Hamilton alumni did not flinch from a challenge in furtherance of the College's mission and went above and beyond to help win this challenge and support current students.

Of course, there were far more compelling reasons to make Hamilton a philanthropic priority than "defeating" Colgate alumni. Alumni gifts are essential to ensure that students have all the resources needed to complete their Hamilton education. Simply put, a contribution to Hamilton's Annual Fund transforms the lives of students on the Hill.

Thank you for making the difference for Hamilton. It's who we are.
