Eighty-one Hamilton students and staff members participated in the 34th annual America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk on Saturday, March 8, at Utica College in less than ideal weather conditions. These volunteers joined 7,600 others in walking and running between three and five miles, and raising an estimated $1.2 million. The annual event raises money and awareness for the American Heart Association and its fight against heart disease and stroke. Team Hamilton raised approximately $4,852.

This year's Hamilton team captains were Professor of French John O'Neal, Lecturer in Music Colleen Pellman and Biology Professor Ernest Williams.

The American Heart Association has helped protect people of all ages and ethnicities from the dangers of heart disease and stroke since 1924. Heart disease and stroke are respectively the No. 1 and No. 3 killers of Americans, and claim more than 949,000 lives every year. Money raised from events like America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk contributes to the more than $360 million that the American Heart Association is able to spend on research, professional and public education, and advocacy every year.
