A New York 6 (NY6) consortium faculty group has been planning a conference at Hamilton for April 7-9 that has become acutely relevant in recent days. Led by Hamilton Associate Professor of Anthropology Chaise LaDousa and Professors of Economics Erol Balkan and Paul Hagstrom, "Refugees on the Move: The Global Refugee Crisis and Local Refugee Lives" will include the screening of a documentary film on Syrian refugees.

Members of the local refugee community will participate in the gathering as well as those who provide ML-ESOL (multi-lingual English-for-speakers-of-another-language) training within the six consortium institutions.

Another NY6 faculty working group focused on immigration and human rights and border issues is also planning an event this spring for Saturday, March 4 at Skidmore College.

That conference will bring a panel of speakers to facilitate a dialogue between faculty and students across the NY6 consortium to discuss the new administration's actions and proposals relating to immigration policy.  This group is collaborating with the International Student Advisors' Working Group, who will be helping to arrange travel and promote student participation by international students across the NY6.

Help us provide an accessible education, offer innovative resources and programs, and foster intellectual exploration.
