The Newark Star-Ledger won a Pulitzer Prize for breaking news reporting for its coverage of N.J. Governor Jim McGreevey's resignation last year. Jim Willse '67 is editor of the Star-Ledger. He joins Henry Allen '63 (Washington Post, for Criticism in 2000) and Melinda Wagner '79 (composer, for Music in 1999) as Hamilton alumni who have won or shared Pulitzers in the past six years.

The Pulitzer Prizes, established and endowed by Joseph Pulitzer (1847–1911), honor excellence in American literature, journalism, drama and music. The prizes, administered by Columbia University, bestow on winners both literary prestige and a cash prize.

An article in the Star-Ledger about the award said:

"Jim Willse, the newspaper's editor, noted that 50 members of the staff produced the stories and photos that appeared in the finished product.

"'This is a particularly satisfying award, because it's for all of you,' Willse told a cheering crowd of staffers, who had gathered in The Star-Ledger's Newark offices for the announcement, which they toasted with plastic glasses of champagne."
