The fourth in the spring series of Kirkland Project Brown Bag talks will take place on Wednesday, April 11, at 12 noon in Schambach 108.  Assistant Professor of English Doran Larson, will read from Hazel Doherty, a novel in progress about sex and politics in Depression-era Hollywood.

Larson describes his work this way: "I am at work on a novel set in 1934--the year Upton Sinclair ran unsuccessfully for governor of CA.  The novel is titled Hazel Doherty.  It is in the voice of a woman who is married into the movie industry, and is a communist party activist.  The novel is, in effect, about the construction of feminine identity in that era that saw the inception of mass-distributed images of women in classic Hollywood film."

Brown Bag gatherings are informal.  Please bring your lunch and join us for discussion. For more information, please call the Kirkland Project office at x4288.

Help us provide an accessible education, offer innovative resources and programs, and foster intellectual exploration.
