Former Hamilton College men’s ice hockey player Anthony Scarpino ’12 (Meadville, PA/Meadville HS) signed a professional contract to play hockey with Vännäs HC in Sweden this season.

Vännäs, located in northern Sweden, plays in the Swedish Division 1, which is the third-highest level ice hockey league in the country. The Division 1 season consists of a fall and spring schedule. Following the 21-game fall schedule, the top four teams from each group continue on to the AllEttan series for the chance to qualify for the second-tier league.

“I want to thank Hamilton for everything, specifically my teammates and coaches during my three years there,” Scarpino said. “Hopefully we can see more players from Hamilton continue to play professionally in the future.”

Scarpino was selected to the 2009-10 NESCAC All-Conference second team as a forward. He registered 77 points (36 goals, 41 assists) in 79 career games, which included a year at Hobart College. As a senior in 2011-12, Scarpino ranked third in the NESCAC with 31 points, fourth with 15 goals and seventh with 16 assists. His seven power-play goals led the conference.
