Hamilton College men's crew alumnus Andre Matias '12 is competing in the 2014 World Rowing Championships at Amsterdam, The Netherlands, for the nation of Angola.

Matias and Jean Rasamoelina finished fifth in their heat of the lightweight men's double sculls with a time of 6:49.9 on August 24. South Africa, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Brazil were the other countries in their heat.

Matias and Rasamoelina missed directly qualifying for the quarterfinals and raced in a repechage on August 25 for another chance to compete in the quarters. The duo finished in fifth place again with a time of 7:09.31. Russia, Hungary, Chile, Mexico and Armenia also had boats in that race.

Matias will race in the lightweight men's double sculls E Final later this week.
