Assistant Professor of Psychology Ravi Thiruchselvam wrote an opinion piece that was featured in the Aug. 25 national edition of Canada’s National Post. Titled “Why people cheat on their spouses,” the essay referenced the recent hacking of the infidelity site Ashley Madison which exposed the personal data of 36 million users.

Thiruchselvam, in explaining the possible psychological reasons for cheating, urged that, “Affairs … should be met with some understanding that the forces that give rise to them can be present in anyone. It is possible to explain ‘cheating’ in psychological terms, I think, that would allow us to be more empathetic towards those driven to affairs. To be clear, explaining a behaviour is distinct from excusing it.”

The National Post features coverage from across Canada and around the world and is a partner with The Province (Vancouver), Vancouver Sun, Edmonton Journal, Calgary Herald, Regina Leader-Post, Saskatoon StarPhoenix, Windsor Star, Ottawa Citizen and the Montreal Gazette.
