Travel on your own to Rockland, Maine. Portland is the nearest major airport and is two hours from Rockland, the point of departure for Monhegan Island. Rental cars are available at the airport and will be needed for traveling to and from town and the ferry. | |

9:00 - 11:30 a.m. | Farnsworth Museum Tour - in addition to the permanent collection "Maine in America," the museum shows include Andrew Wyeth's "Paintings of Siri Erickson" and "Pirates," a theme exhibition of Pyle, Schoonover, N.C. Wyeth and the Golden Age of Illustration. |
11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. | Free time in Rockland - commercial gallery visits and lunch on your own |
1:30 - 2 p.m. | Travel to ferry to Monhegan - return to the Eastwind to collect belongings and go on the 3 p.m. ferry for a 60 minute trip to the island |
4 p.m. | Check in - to Island Inn and Monhegan House, both short walks from the ferry. Monhegan Island is rocky and hilly. It is essential to bring comfortable walking shoes. |
5:30 - 6:30 p.m. | Reception and viewing at the Lupine Gallery - the only commercial gallery on the island. |

Thursday August 7: MONHEGAN ISLAND | |
7 -9 a.m. | Breakfast – at your inn |
9 a.m. | Visits to artist studios - Arrangements are made to visit island studios of artists such as National Academician Don Stone whose impressionist oils are highly acclaimed; Sylvia Alberts, a New York artist who has been summering on the island for 35 years; and Sylvia Murdoch. In addition, there are 15 or so artists who have open studios, and paint with a wide range of styles and mediums. Many paint landscapes and seascapes in the realist tradition, but there are abstract painters, impressionists, and expressionists. The decision about which studios to visit will depend on how much walking individuals want to do. |

2 p.m. | Afternoon free for walks, relaxing and shopping - Maps of hiking trails will be available. Or, if you prefer you can sit on the porch in a rocking chair overlooking the active harbor. |
