Phyllis Breland has been appointed as Posse Mentor and Assistant Director of the Higher Education Opportunity Program, effective June 1, 2001.  A 1980 graduate of Hamilton College, Breland was a theatre major, class speaker, and the first African-American woman inducted into Pentagon.

Since graduating she has worked in a number of human service positions, and is currently with the Onondaga County Health Department as a program coordinator.  Her work experience and her knowledge of Hamilton make her an ideal candidate for getting the Posse Program off to a good start and integrating it with HEOP.  

The members of the search committee that selected her include, David Paris, Liberty Bell, Andrea DuVall, Rit Fuller, Barbara Gold, Karen Green, Shelley Haley, and Chris Johnson.
