Students in the Program in Washington D.C. met last week with Marc Elias '90, partner in Perkins Coie LLP. Elias, a nationally recognized expert in election and campaign finance law, served as general counsel for the Kerry for President Campaign in 2004 and represented Al Franken in the recount of the Minnesota Senate election.
In a sweeping discussion, topics ranged from the Minnesota recount to the recent oral argument in the Supreme Court in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission to the Committee to Reform Voter Registration, a bipartisan group co-founded by Elias.
The meeting capped a busy first few weeks of the Washington program, including the start of internships and the academic program on Congress and the Presidency, a visit to the Newseum and a boat trip to Mount Vernon.
