Professor of Biology Patrick D. Reynolds has contributed a chapter titled "Molecular systematics of the Scaphopoda" to Molecular Systematics and Phylogeography of Mollusks, edited by Lydeard and Lindberg. The book, published by the Smithsonian Institution Press, is part of the "Smithsonian Series in Comparative and Evolutionary Biology." Professor Reynolds is an expert in invertebrate biology, particularly the evolution of mollusks.

From Series editors Douglas Erwin & Ted Schultz (flysheet):
"The intent of this series is to publish innovative studies in the field of comparative evolutionary biology, especially by authors willing to introduce new ideas or to challenge or expand views now accepted...."

From Volume editors Lydeard & Lindberg (p. xii):
"We asked each contributor to synthesize what is known about molecular systematics or phylogeography of their favorite group of mollusks and/or provide novel data or a fresh perspective or approach for analyzing data in a phylogenetic framework.... we hope this volume serves as a useful primer and valuable resource for those interested in the rapidly developing field of molluscan systematics or phylogeography and that it will inspire evolutionary biologists to consider the use of mollusks in their research programs.  Like Darwin, we envision a time when the molluscan 'Tree of Life' will be reconstructed, in part with the help of their molecules."
