Hamilton College will host the Banff Festival of Mountain Films, a collection of short films about mountaineering and adventure, on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. in Kirner-Johnson’s Bradford Auditorium. The screening is sponsored by the Hamilton Outing Club. This is the 15th year Hamilton has hosted the Banff Festival.
Admission is $8 for members of the Hamilton College community and $10 for the public.
The Banff Festival of Mountain Films brings together the world’s premier footage of climbing, mountaineering, remote cultures and untamed wilderness. It began in 1976 as the pet project of a few climbers and outdoorsmen in the small town of Banff in Alberta, Canada. Since then, it has grown into a nine-day festival in Banff and a year-round film tour, with more than 500 screenings on all continents.
The Banff Film Festival has screened more than 5,000 movies in its 37-year history; those films that earn special distinctions or awards are selected for the World Tour. The World Tour attracts some 330,000 attendees annually and is considered the key event of most local mountaineering communities.
