Professor Barbara Tewksbury and astronaut Victor Glover in the field in New Mexico.

Professor of Geosciences Barbara Tewksbury co-authored an article in the August issue of GSA Today, a publication of the Geological Society of America. “Geologic Training for America’s Astronauts” describes the rationale for changes over the past eight years in geology training for astronaut candidates and the focus for future geology training. The issue is available online; click on the “Groundwork” tab to view Tewksbury’s article.

Tewksbury has been one of a handful of geologists involved in redesigning the geology training for astronauts. She was one of the classroom and field instructors for the 2009 and 2013 astronaut candidate classes. An article describing her work with the 2013 astronaut class was featured in the fall 2014 issue of the Hamilton Alumni Review.
