Inspired by The Private Musick, the instrumental ensemble employed by King James II of England during the late 17th century, The Publick Musick appears both as a chamber ensemble and orchestra. Formed in 1990, this unique group performs music of the 17th and 18th centuries using historical instruments and performing practices. The ensemble's members are noted soloists and have performed and recorded with many leading North American and European early music ensembles, including Tafelmusik, Concert Royal and The London Classical Players. They have performed across the northeastern United States and will record a CD of Telemann concertos and sonatas this summer.
Members of the ensemble include Andrea Folan, Brian Brooks, Laura Kramer, David Yearsley and Steven Zohn, who is currently visiting assistant professor of music at Hamilton.
